The Wellness Within

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha has a long, rich history of use in Classical Ayurveda from India for approximately 4,000 years. One of the most revered herbs in Ayurveda, it is considered a Rasayana and has been traditionally used to support health, energy, youthful vigor, and fertility. In modern herbalism, it is considered to be an adaptogen, a substance that facilitates the body’s ability to respond to stress and balance body functions.*

Bacopa

Also known as Brahmi, this delicate, creeping, water-loving plant has been used in classical Ayurveda for thousands of years as an herb to support memory and enhance the power of the mind. Well known as a “nootropic,” a category of substances that support memory and overall cognitive function, Bacopa is also regarded in some circles as an adaptogenic herb with tonic effects on the mind and the stress response.*

Turmeric

Turmeric rhizome, known for its vibrant yellow-orange hue, has been used as a spice and herb for over 4,000 years in India and tropical Asia, making it integral to classical Ayurveda. With over 5,000 published papers on this remarkable plant, Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and adaptogenic companion. It supports healthy digestion, a balanced inflammatory response, healthy cortisol levels, and a positive mood.*

Holy Basil

Holy Basil, or Tulsi, is revered as one of the most sacred plants in India, planted abundantly near shrines and sacred sites. Considered a Rasayana in Ayurvedic texts, it is recognized in the West as a supportive adaptogen. A member of the mint family, Tulsi is rich in essential oils like eugenol, which gives it a clove-like scent. It offers antioxidant support and supports the nervous system, memory, and mood.*

Ginger

Ginger has been relied on for thousands of years in both Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Native to the warm regions of Asia, its rhizome is used as both a spice and an herb, with a strong pungent and slightly sweet taste. Ginger contains active compounds such as gingerols and shogaols, along with volatile oils like zingiberene. It has traditionally been used to support healthy digestion and digestive comfort.*

Black Pepper

Known as the “King of Spices,” Black Pepper is used as both a spice and an herb in classical Ayurveda, while in the West it is used almost exclusively in the kitchen. Ayurveda reveres this pungent fruit for its bio-enhancing properties. Thanks to its key compound, piperine, Black Pepper helps increase the bioavailability and absorption of the herbs and nutrients it is combined with, maximizing their benefits.*
